FEDERATION Training will receive a $2.5 million boost from the state government’s TAFE fund.
Eastern Victoria MLC Harriet Shing made the announcement at Federation Training’s Yallourn Campus on Thursday.
Ms Shing said the funding would improve outcomes for students across Gippsland.
“The Labor government is rebuilding our TAFE system and rescuing campuses like Yallourn, so young people across Gippsland can get the skills they need for the jobs they want,” she said.
Federation Training chief executive Wendy Wood said the money would support the development of a student support and advisory team.
The team will focus on increasing course completion rates, modernising courses and course delivery to better suit students.
“To increase completion rates we need to focus on two things; ensuring students are enrolled in the right course and assisting those who require additional support once they have commenced their studies,” Ms Wood said.
“The student support and advisory team will actively assist students with career advice, language, literacy and numeracy support, study support and general counselling
“Our teaching staff have highlighted the importance of providing this support to improve student satisfaction and learning outcomes.”
The government says the funding for the modernisation of courses will realign program offerings to better meet the needs of students while continuing to meet community aspirations.
