MEMBER for Lyne David Gillespie has reinforced his “firm support” for the Prime Minister following his overwhelming defeat of Monday’selection spill motion.
From the nation’s capital, Dr Gillespie said he was pleased the Liberal Party leader had been “provided with the confidence and support he needs to deliver on the promises the Coalition government made to the Australian people 16 months ago”.
“The National Party remains supportive of the Coalition government and now it’s time we got back on with the job of fixing the mess the Labor government left us with.
“I’m relieved we can now get on with building a stronger economy, which delivers more jobs and more tax revenue to repay debt and deliver the services people want us to,” he said.
Monday’s 61 to 39 vote was a very clear victory for the PM.
Talk following Monday’s vote has focused on whether Joe Hockey or Malcolm Turnbull should hold the position of treasurer.
Some claim Mr Turnbull could inject the firepower needed to steer the debate back to the economy and prosecute the government’s case against Labor’s debt and deficit legacy.
