Clayspace initiative co-ordinator Kath Wratten is currently seeking to secure a permanent space in the upstairs rooms at the Rex Theatre to house the 16 artists who are currently showing their work there. Picture: JULIE HOUGH THE Rex in Daylesford is serving as a new creative hub for the region’s artists after their former space shut last year.
The closure of Door3, in East Street, left many local artists without a place to come together and share their work.
But 16 artists have found a new home upstairs at The Rex, in Vincent Street.
Co-ordinator Kath Wratten said local collectiveClayspace and fellow artists were hoping to use this space as apermanent showcase of local artwork.
“We had run a pop up style gallery in the post office and the response from both the tourists and local population was incredibly positive,” she said.
“There are other galleries in Daylesford, but none that represent purely local work.
“We’d really like to make that happen (because) people really appreciate access to the artwork of the area.”
She said utilising the space also enlivenedthe building, which “could really use some love”.
The group is negotiating with new managementto secure the space.
