A man sitting on a St Kilda jetty was stabbed by a stranger on Saturday night, police say.
The 24-year-old victim was sitting with a friend on Brooks Jetty, near the intersection of Marine Parade and Shakespeare Grove, when a man and woman walked passed about 11.35pm.
“The pair appeared to be having an argument and the man confronted the victim for no known reason and stabbed him,” a police spokesman said.
The attacker stabbed the victim, of St Kilda, in the back, neck and shoulders, before running off, the spokesman said.
The victim collapsed at the end of the jetty and was taken to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries.
The attacker was described as Caucasian, about 170 centimetres tall, skinny with a gaunt face, straight blond hair and speaking with an English accent. He was wearing a dark, tight-fitting polo top.
His female partner was described as having an olive complexion and short hair with orange and blonde colouring. She was wearing a dark, short-sleeve crop top with a red logo on the front, high-cut denim jeans and white, thick, platform sandals.
