Police pleased with S80 patrons

POLICE say they are pleased with thebehaviour of crowds at this year’s Club Marine Southern 80.
Thousands of people flocked to Echucato watch competitorsparticipate in the Murray Riverrace.
Members issued 140 penalty notices, the majority of which were traffic related. Five drivers were caught drug affected while a motoristhad their vehicle impounded.Seventeen people were arrested for being drunk in public.
Echuca Police Sergeant Justin McAuleysaid the three-day event was generally trouble-free.
“We are happy with the behaviour of people,” Sergeant McAuleysaid.
“We had minimal issues in and around town and down at the finish line.”
Sergeant McAuleysaid most of the bad behaviour involved people at campsites along the river.
“The amount of time we are spending out there dealing with bad behaviour is increasing,” he said.
“A lot of it being unruly, alcohol-fuelled behaviour – that’s the downside.”
