The City of Greater Bendigo is advising residents their garbage and recycling services maybe affected on days forecast to experience either code red or extreme fire dangerconditions.
Waste services manager Simon Clay said bins that are not collected due to hot weather willbe collected on the next scheduled day.
“We appreciate residents’ co-operation on this matter, as it is our top priority to keep our staffsafe and not to enter high fire danger areas when it is very hot,” Mr Clay said.
“It is too much of a risk to put drivers in a position where they cannot easily turn a truckaround or have to drive into thick vegetation to collect waste.
“Residents will also notice changes to access to landfill sites and transfer stations due to thelocation of these facilities adjacent to state forest and native vegetation and the associatedfire risk on days of extreme fire danger.”
Heathcote landfill, Eaglehawk landfill and Strathfieldsaye Transfer Station and the Goornong Transfer Station will close on code redand extremedays.
The rural garbage and recycling collections will also have limitations in rural areas on code red and extreme days.
On code red days, drivers will nottravel on unsealed roadsthat:
· Are no through roads;
· Have limited visibility;
· Have no areas where atruck can easily turnaround; and
· Are through state forestor areas of similarvegetation density.
On extreme days, collections will be at thedriver’s discretion based onlocal conditions.
